New excavations were carried out several times, between 1834 and 1882, at the estate of Roma Vecchia, at the Caffarella and the Quadraro. The excavation activity was extended by Prince Alessandro Torlonia also to other estates, among which those in Sabina, Tuscia and Porto. In particular, the campaigns promoted in the Porto area, reclaimed starting from 1878, led to the rediscovery of the ancient port area dating to the Imperial era, and provided important evidence concerning the original structure of the site.
