Statue of a Satyr in Repose

Among the works created by Praxiteles in his youth there is the resting Satyr. It is uncertain whether the original, dated to 330 BC was created in marble or bronze. There are currently one hundred and fifteen replicas of the type, which had considerable success especially among the Roman Aristocratic patrons, mindful of the greatness of the Athenian artist.
The young Satyr, who dates back to around the second century AD, reproduces the position of the unbalanced body resting on the gnarled trunk.
