“The Torlonia Marbles. Collecting Masterpieces” at the Gallerie d’Italia in Milan showcased 96 outstanding works from the Torlonia Collection — the most important private collection of ancient Roman sculpture in the world. Curated by Salvatore Settis and Carlo Gasparri, the exhibition traced the history of sculpture collecting in Rome from the 15th to the 19th century, highlighting iconic pieces such as the consular sarcophagus with couple and cortege, the Dacian prisoner, busts of Domitian and Antinous, and the celebrated Leda with the Swan. The sculptures, many recently restored with the support of Bulgari, were presented in six thematic sections. This Milanese stop marked the second chapter of the international exhibition project, a major step toward the creation of a future Torlonia Museum.
