Kline Monument with Recumbent Female Figure

The young woman lies on a kline, dressed in a light chiton that wraps the body shapes. With her right arm, falling loosely along her side, she holds a laurel wreath, a symbol of glory and virtue, while the fingers of her left hand grip a strip of the mantle upon which she lies. The face with its youthful features is framed by a simple hairstyle; the smooth locks are tied behind in a braid coiled into three spirals. The wreath, the left forearm, the nose, the right ear and many other parts bear the restoration work of Bartolomeo Cavaceppi, who, in his study of Via del Babuino, placed the monument on a sarcophagus, depicting an Indian triumph of Dionysus.
