Myth and Marble: Ancient Roman Sculpture from the Torlonia Collection will showcase 58 masterpieces from the world’s most important private collection of ancient Roman sculpture—now making its debut overseas. Busts, mythological figures, and sarcophagi—28 of which have been specially restored for this international tour with the support of the Bvlgari Foundation—will be displayed in a setting designed to spark a dialogue between antiquity and the contemporary architecture of the esteemed museums hosting the exhibition.

  • Kimbell Art Museum: September 13, 2025 – January 25, 2026

  • Montreal Museum of Fine Arts: March – July 2026

The exhibition is curated by Lisa Ayla Çakmak and Katharine A. Raff of the Department of Ancient and Byzantine Art at the Art Institute of Chicago.

Myth and Marble is co-organized by the Art Institute of Chicago and the Torlonia Foundation, in partnership with the Kimbell Art Museum, the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, and The Museum Box.

All sculptures have been restored by the Torlonia Foundation, with generous support from the Bvlgari Foundation.
